As most of you know, this is an annual gathering during which we honor those persons who were homeless or formerly homeless and passed away this year, and we recommit ourselves to ending homelessness in our city. Homeless Persons Memorial Day is a national event that takes place on or around December 21, the first day of winter and the longest night of the year. Since the early 1990s, a coalition of Philadelphia advocates, providers, and homeless/formerly homeless persons have commemorated the event locally with a special gathering to remember our homeless sisters and brothers who have died and to recommit ourselves to working to end homelessness in our city.
As always, we need a solid core of organizers, volunteers, and committee members to make this significant event possible.
If you cannot be present at the meetings but want to help in the organizing for Homeless Memorial Day, or if you want to volunteer the day of the event, please contact Karen Orrick at firstname.lastname@example.org or 215-232-7272 ext. 3048. You can also follow along on Facebook.
